Hill Country Preservation Coalition
The Hill Country Preservation Coalition is committed to ensuring that the Howard Solstice transmission line is not routed across the heart of some of Texas’s most iconic river basins including the Upper Nueces, Frio, Sabinal, Medina, Pecos and Devils Rivers and that it instead follows existing major transportation corridors and rights of way along the perimeters of these basin. This would minimize ecological damage and fragmentation of the Texas Hill Country for the benefit of all who enjoy the region, including the millions of San Antonians who rely on these pristine Hill Country rivers to recharge the Edwards Aquifers for their drinking water supply.
Our Call To Action
Howard-Solstice Transmission Line
American Electric Power (AEP) and CPS Energy have recently proposed the construction of a high-voltage transmission line that would cut through large portions of the Texas Hill Country. Time is short to influence them to consider a less harmful route.
The Hill Country Preservation Coalition, along with partners and landowners across the region, are calling on AEP and CPS Energy -- a utility owned by the City of San Antonio -- to do three things:
-
Extend their planning timeline, to allow for consideration of new route segments
-
Add route segments that follow the Hwy 277 corridor from South to North to avoid the river basins (see map).
-
Remove the route segments are currently projected to cut through our river basins (see map).
-
Make use of transportation corridors and other existing rights of way wherever possible.
We need you, your neighbors, and organizations in our region to support this call to action by joining us.
